Dear Selection Committee,
It is with great interest that I am exploring employment opportunities as an English teacher within your school district. I am confident that my life experiences, education, and skill sets would be an asset to your students’ learning and development.
I am a passionate and resourceful person with an interest in both the student’s academic performance as well as their social growth. I like to incorporate all content areas in the English Language Arts classroom so students can get a deeper understanding about Literature and Grammar through Art, Music, Math, Science, History, and Foreign Languages.
I am eager to begin this next chapter in my life and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I could best meet the needs of your district. I invite you to contact me to discuss my future as a teacher. Thank you for your time and consideration. For a full resume and list of references, please click here.

OBJECTIVE
I would like to find a full-time teaching position in an English Department. My primary interests are World Literature, British Literature, and Creative Writing.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
July 2006 – present English Teacher
• I have two contents – 12th grade general English and 11th grade college bound English.
• I created lesson plans for American and British Literature units as well as English grammar and composition and uploaded and maintained them in STI.
• 11th grade novels include: “The Hound of the Baskervilles,” “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” “The Great Gatsby,” and “The Scarlet Letter.”
• 12th grade novels, “Running Loose,” “Night,” “To Sir, With Love,” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
• I worked with low-level seniors to pass the AHSGE. I went from forty-seven seniors that failed previous Reading/Language tests, to six seniors (2 Sp Ed, 2 ESL, 2 GED).
• I enjoy learning my students’ needs and creating challenging and creative lesson plans for literature, grammar, and writing.
Jan 2005 – Dec 2005 Student Teaching
Internship
• I created and taught a lesson plan during the Julius Caesar and The Separate Peace units.
• I taught a unit on Short Stories, including eleven stories. I chose which stories I wanted to read, created the lesson plans, assigned projects, and tested the students. When the students completed the unit, I created a “Short Story Unit Test” which I used as a six weeks test.
• I assisted in grading papers, filing, and other administrative duties.
• I assisted students with individual writing assignments in the classroom and in the computer lab.
• I taught a lesson on “Multiple Intelligences and Personality Color Mapping.”
Residency
• I entered grades, verified progress reports, and recorded attendance daily in SASI.
• I taught the novel, The House on Mango Street and incorporated the novel into each daily lesson plan by creating a journal prompt from the novel for each day.
• I prepared the students for the TAKS Benchmark by modeling writing formats and giving the students multiple times to practice for the TAKS. I helped grade the students’ open-ended and essay responses. I also reviewed the responses with the students, led a peer-grading session, and reviewed how to improve the original responses. I held tutoring sessions for TAKS re-write and entered the new, better grade for a major writing grade during the second six weeks.
• I created a PowerPoint vocabulary unit from vocabulary books for the English II and III teachers.
• I created and maintained an online Blog so parents and students could see daily assignments, upcoming assignments, and check for messages or class notes.
